Art exhibit with Mary Ellen Mogee entitled "Dance of Color." The paintings in this exhibit, which are acrylic on canvas, represent the artist’s current exploration of color. Most were made by building up many layers of transparent, translucent, and opaque color. Like most of her work, these paintings are characterized by bright, saturated color, and have the energy and motion of dance. Mary is a contemporary abstract painter working in acrylic and mixed media. Her paintings are characterized by their vibrant color and sense of movement. She enjoys working with grids and layers, often incorporating simple geometric forms such as circles, squares, and triangles into her compositions. In describing her process, she explains, "My inspiration comes from external sources such as the beauty of nature and internal sources such as dreams and imagination. My art is part of my life’s journey of self-discovery and expression. My goal is to continually search for a unique and authentic personal expression." A native of Illinois, Mary moved to the Washington DC area to pursue graduate degrees in policy analysis. After working more than 30 years in that field, she took up painting, fell in love with it, and retired early to follow her new passion. Mary is the founder of AHH! Studios in Great Falls, Virginia, and an Artist Associate at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia. Her work may be seen online at www.maryellenmogee.com and you can contact her by email at MyArtandSoul@gmail.com for more information.
