Falls Church’s FIRSTfriday, held the first Friday of each month, creates business and social synergy in the city. The event attracts people to view local artwork, learn about the city’s history, and shop and dine in downtown Falls Church.

Come to FIRSTfriday of Falls Church and join the fun. Activities include live music, kid-friendly activities, art exhibits, book signings, wine tastings, cook-offs, educational talks and much much more.

Art Events:

 At Art and Frame of Falls Church — (703) 534-4202, 111 Park Ave.

  • Art exhibit, sale, and reception featuring City of Lights with photographs shown by father-daughter Bob Morrison and Elizabeth.  When Bob and Meredith Morrison took their teenage children Justin and Elizabeth to Paris in August 2007, they hoped to impart some of the love they felt for that great city.  And Bob and Elizabeth wanted to bring home some nice images.  They succeeded on both counts.  Artist talk 7:15.  Complimentary Cabot Cheese by Cabot Creamery Cooperative - www.cabotcheese.coop. 6-8 p.m.
  • I scream, you scream, we all scream for Free Ice Cream provided by Lazy Sundae. 6-8pm or until it runs out!
  • Open Studio Night – View the works and meet the artists' Denise Philipbar showcasing her paintings & sculptures and Dede Haas with her photography.

At Falls Church Arts' Gallery — (703) 534-4202, 111 Park Ave.

  • Art exhibit, sale, and reception featuring the students of Jennifer Schoechle "Dispelling the Summer Doldrums."  Guests are invited to participate by submitting anonymous ballots for the top three works of art and a "best in show" awards. 6-8 p.m.

At Clay Café Studios (703) 534-7600, 101 N. Maple Ave.

  • Calling all karaoke-lovers! Shower us with a song and enjoy some karaoke with friends and family while you paint some pottery or create your glass fusing masterpiece. Light fare served. 6-8 p.m.

At Ireland’s Four Provinces Restaurant  (703) 534-8999, 105 W. Broad St.  

  • Local Irish Balladeer will sing songs you know and maybe some you don't know! 8 p.m. ‘til closing.

  • Art exhibit, sale, and reception featuring bead artist Lisa Walsh of Abednego Beads.  Her current work holds the imprint and early experiences of a lifelong fascination with agates and other interesting rocks that have been picked up on "agate hunts" behind her childhood home which are shared through her beads today. 6-8:30 p.m.

At Curves  (703) 536-0140, 240 W. Broad St.  

  • Art exhibit, sale, and reception featuring acrylic painters Iva Sampiller and Teri LaBuwi.  Friends and new artists from the Northern Virginia area share their vibrant and whimsical mixture of color and style. 7-8 p.m.

At Shreve McGonegal (703) 532-4440, 212 N. West St.  

  • Art exhibit, sale, and reception highlighting fine art in Black and White featuring film photographer Dede Haas of Reflections Within and watercolorist Gretchen Thompson.  Enjoy the exhibit, food, and music by the emerging new jazz and blues sound of Might as Well.le. 6-8 p.m.

At Monkey Business (703) 241-7529, 422 S. Washington St.  

  • Parents Night Out!  Parents of 3-6 year olds may drop their children off for an evening of FUN while parents enjoy the FIRSTfriday events and restaurant specials around town!  Children will enjoy a cheese pizza dinner with friends as well as climbing, jumping, instrument play, Exploration Stations, Storytime and Arts & Crafts, and playing in the safe play studio, which has just been nominated as the Best Indoor Playspace/Partyspace in the Washington, DC area by Nickelodeon's Parents' Picks Awards 2008! Reservations Required - only $25 per child. 5:30-8 p.m.
